Miss Cedelia Shore

    My Dear Friend

The time passes of Slow today and in order to kill time I thought that I would just write a line to you not that I have any thing interesting to communicate but for the reason before mentioned     we are still at Brashear City and dont see any hopes of getting away soon from the appearence of things     we have another rhumor that we are to go to New Orleans soon Prior to being sent north but dont place any confidence in such reports any more.  The weather is warm here about as hot as it will be this sumer I think.  The whole country which has been covered with flood water is once more dry and things begin to look natural again.

from what I can hear there will be some large Celebration on the fourth up north     I would rather be noth to spend the fourth than to be here but that is amongst the Impossibilities     about 30 men from our Battery has been sent Home their time being out before the first of October     from what I can learn they are sending men home as fast as possible and all we can do is to wait untill they get around to us which I certainly hope will not be at any Very distant day.  I expect that there has been a great many Soldiers returned home to Stark Co before this time and are Enjoying the Pleasures of Home.  There is Some troops being sent to Texas with a View to Trouble With a few Crazy French in Mexico but I dont believe that there will be any trouble with them.

Some way or other I seldom ever get a letter from the north     I heare by last letter that Our R.Road was agoing through and when I get an othe I expect to hear that the Cars are arunning through La Fayette & Toulon     I hope it all success

No more now only I Remain your affectionate Friend

I request that you keep this note untill I return and when you let me see it I will explain why I make this strange request.
