Resaca, Georgia
14 May 1864

William T. Shore was a Private, Co. F, 112th Illinois Volunteer Infantry.

He had enlisted on 15 Feb 1863, at 16 years and 10 months of age.

At Resaca on 14 May 1864, his unit advanced and attacked Confederate
positions on the high ground.

Some of the Confederate trenches can still be seen in these pictures,
taken in 2005.

In 1864 these trenches were shoulder-high.  A man could lie on the
breastworks with only his eyes -- and weapon -- showing to the
advancing Federal troops in the field before him.

Note:  Some of these photos are very large.  They might take some time to download.

Note the high breastworks put up by the defending troops,
with the trenches behind them.
