Other Families -- Lost Heritage

At one time these families
cared for each other.

They preserved these images
in dignity and respect.

They passed them on
to a new generation whom they loved.

Somewhere along the line, someone ceased to care.

Now these human beings are merely faces in an old album.
A curiosity, an antique.
Unknown.

It was auctioned in 2008, sold for $16.00.

Let us  never  allow that to happen to our heritage.

These people
are not
our family.

They were in
someone else's family
who let their heritage
slip away.

Now their faces
look out at us
across the years.

Who was the first person
in their family

who looked at these faces

and did not care?
